KEANE Announce Headlining North American Tour in Support of New Album 'Night Train'
Keane tourCelebrated UK trio Keane will embark on a headlining US tour this summer in support of their new album 'Night Train', out tomorrow on Cherrytree/Interscope Records. The tour kicks off July 20th in Oakland, CA and sees the band traveling across the country, wrapping up August 11th in Minneapolis. Supporting the tour will be Travis frontman Fran Healy and Ingrid Michaelson.

Keane's most recent release features eight refreshingly innovative tracks written and recorded while the band was on a 28-country arena tour in support of their album 'Perfect Symmetry'. 'Night Train' includes several songs that challenge the boundaries of genre via unique collaborations with Somali/Canadian rapper K'Naan and Japanese funk singer Tigarah. The album has already been lauded for its signature brooding rock combined with synth-pop flourishes, leading Rolling Stone to say that with its "brass-bolstered soul" and "electro-flavored dance pop... Keane have proved themselves masters of... pop perkiness." Alternative Press drew comparisons to David Bowie and Radiohead and People gave it three out of four stars.

Since their inception in 2003, Keane has sold 10 million copies of their three award-winning albums and seen remarkable success with their singles "Somewhere Only We Know," "Everybody's Changing" and "Bedshaped," among many others. The band's particular brand of evocative piano rock propelled by literate, heartfelt songcraft has propelled them to worldwide adoration and success.. source article

Keane Biography (Short bio on Keane)
Tom Chaplin (vocals), Richard Hughes (drums), and Tim Rice-Oxley (piano) are childhood friends from Battle, East Sussex, England, and together they make the merry pop sounds of Keane. Formed in 1997 while each were attending college, Keane initially started out as a cover band. They played Oasis, U2, and Beatles songs in and around East Sussex with guitarist Dominic Scott. The shtick would only last so long, for the band got tired of playing everyone else's songs and yearned to do things on their own. When Chaplin left his art history studies at Edinburgh University behind in 1999, and moved to London to join the rest of his mates, Keane had a chance to really do it.

Keane biographyKeane began writing and recording almost immediately. Call Me What You Like marked their self-released debut single in early 2000, and Wolf at the Door followed a year later; however, things were slow to develop. Scott left the band in July 2001 and labels weren't really biting at Keane's rich, piano-driven kind of rock because Coldplay supposedly was doing it. In December 2002, Keane got the break they'd been waiting for. Fierce Panda's Simon Williams was summoned by a friend to attend a Keane gig in London. Williams was so impressed by the band's performance, he offered to issue the band's next single, Everybody's Changing, on the spot. The limited-edition release was such a success on radio that several labels soon swarmed around the indie rock trio, eager to offer them a recording contract.

Keane signed to Island UK in fall 2003 and released their fourth single, This Is the Last Time. The band's full-length debut, Hopes and Fears, appeared the following spring. It hit the top of the U.K. album charts during its first week of release, beating out Morrissey's You Are the Quarry. As they burned up the charts on both sides of the pond, Keane received two Brit Awards for Best Breakthrough Act and Best Album 2005 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. By summer 2005, they were opening select dates on U2's Vertigo world tour and enjoying the success of their Live Recordings 2004 EP. For their second album, the dark, thought-provoking Under the Iron Sea, Keane once again joined producer Andy Green. Stateside summer shows coincided its June 2006 release. The album debuted at number four on the Billboard Top 200 album chart during its first week of release. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide .... read more Keane biography
